Andrew Hitchen

Andrew Hitchen Noise PollutionBorn in the north of England, Andrew has lived in Leamington Spa, Manchester, Madrid and now lives in London. Coming from a literary background, he rose to fame in the late 1980’s with his audacious theatre posters for the infamous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since then, Andrew’s unique style has earned him numerous commissions for a variety of magazines, newspapers, events and indie record labels. Having studied Narrative Illustration at the University of the Arts in London, Andrew’s artwork is filled with colourful and eccentric characters and is often both humorous and strikingly grotesque, provoking questions in the viewer which are sure to leave a lasting impression.

From the stark black and white images of Andrew’s editorial pictures to the mind-bending prismatic colours of his book illustrations, Andrew’s artwork has often been hailed as “bold and courageous.” Recent artwork for a children’s fantasy novel has been described as “a stunning vision of a macabre world”.

By embracing current digital techniques, Andrew’s style has now been refined and modernised for 21st Century tastes. In the past, Andrew has worked as a journalist and an editor of an arts magazine, and has also studied creative writing with screenwriter Andrew Davies. He is currently working on a macabre children’s novel which he is writing and illustrating.

Andrew is still available for freelance work.
