The Curious Case of Eda Scheurer
I finished my illustration course final major project with a project around the life of my great great grandmother Eda Scheurer. She was interesting to me as I had originally very little information about her except that she smoked a pipe, had one eye and, reputedly, had fights with men. As an illustration project she was enticing but as my own blood she was both amusing and frightening. So I set to work finding out as much as I could about her. I drew a very large family tree, found as many records as possible about her and even found extra distant cousins along the way. I even found her unmarked grave in Sutton Cemetary. She wasn’t the nicest of characters but she was fascinating. I will post more as and when I document the artwork but suffice to say she was a laundress so she has been respresented in sheet form, laundry book form, dolly pegs and laundry box.
