Art

My art practice involves storytelling via pastel and graphite drawings as well as working with audio. My work tells playful stories about my own background as well as collective cultural experiences through extensive research and process. I'm influenced by the unpredictability, temporal and allegorical nature of life and how personal history can help anchor us in time and space.

Storytelling in sound

Act as if the house is on fire

A piece for Future Cities, I cut up many parts of the original supplied track and processed them several times to create what started to sound like a very formidable battle march. I kept processing layer upon layer through various software and filters. The title is based on a quote from Greta Thunberg and also refers back to the anti-smoking march of the original piece.

Ratchet-faced old hag with a moustache

Accidental feminist statement whilst experimenting with MAXMSP and facial recognition. I was experimenting with Open Face and how I might change the volume of or trigger sound with proximity. I sampled some Carry On film snippets and triggered the sound when a face is close to the computer camera. I intend to experiment with this further.
